Parents of Creative Communicators 19+
This is for parents of children 19 and older
Service Description
Join others who have children ages 19 years and above who are "creative communicators." This means your child uses some alternative ways to communicate, not just verbal. The overall needs, accommodations, and other supports can simply be more creative and perhaps more complex. Some communicators may use sign language, iPad apps, keyboards, letterboards, and/or behaviors to communicate in addition to their verbal use. It can also mean that your child is verbal but has times (e.g., when anxious or stressed) when their words are not accessible to them. It can also mean that your child uses movie scripts, video game phrases, or other seemingly borrowed speech to communicate. If your child uses behaviors to communicate like hitting, scratching, biting, self-injurious behavior, or pulling you to something they want, this is your group too. The needs are commonly more complex from GI issues to safety concerns. Come be amongst other parents who understand and have gathered supports that work for them to share. Come share those that have worked for you. This is going to be a fantastic group! I can't wait to see you.
